MAOIs are drugs that have a restricted diet as they can interact with food. Although they are not used a lot but they can be helpful in some situations. Their common side effects are weight gain, dizziness, drowsiness, sexual dysfunction and insomnia. They can have birth defects so they should be avoided by pregnant women. Tricyclic antidepressants work by affecting certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Sleep disturbance, sudden low blood pressure upon standing, weight gain, sexual dysfunction and mental disturbance. Therefore, any medicine taken should be properly studied and discussed with the doctor as every patient will require a different type of medicine.
